Community Oncology Connections™: Bridging Academic and Community Connections to Advance Precision and Targeted Care in NF1 Plexiform Neurofibromas

    August 12, 2026
    5:15 PM - 6:15 PM PT
    Virtual Regional Meeting | Nevada

    Overview:

Neurofibromatosis type 1–associated plexiform neurofibromas (NF1-PNs) represent a rare and clinically complex condition marked by heterogeneous tumor growth, significant functional and psychosocial burden, and risk of malignant transformation. The emergence of MEK inhibitors, including the recently FDA-approved agents selumetinib and mirdametinib, has transformed the treatment landscape for both pediatric and adult patients—yet questions around treatment timing, therapy sequencing, toxicity management, and real-world implementation continue to challenge community-based clinicians who often manage these patients without regular access to specialty center expertise.

This CME-certified initiative, Community Oncology Connections: Bridging Academic and Community Connections to Advance Precision and Targeted Care in NF1 Plexiform Neurofibromas, will bring together academic NF1 specialists and community oncologists across a series of 8 live virtual meetings held in conjunction with regional oncology state societies. Through interactive case-based discussions and evidence-informed peer exchange, the program will address key decision points in diagnosis, targeted therapy selection, adverse event management, and longitudinal care coordination—with the goal of reducing practice variability and empowering community clinicians to deliver timely, personalized care for patients with NF1-PNs.

    Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

    • Apply guideline-based diagnostic criteria to improve accurate identification, classification, and referral of patients with NF1-PNs
    • Evaluate emerging clinical trial data on targeted therapies, including MEK inhibitors, to inform evidence-based treatment selection for patients with NF1-PNs
    • Integrate patient-specific factors to develop individualized management plans for patients with NF1-PNs
    • Identify, monitor, and manage adverse events associated with targeted therapies for NF1-PNs within real-world practice settings

    Target Audience:

This educational program is primarily directed toward community-based oncologists, nurses, NPs/APPs, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of NF1 plexiform neurofibromas (NF1-PNs).
